What’s the plan? As Bob Dylan* once tried to sing** ‘The times, they are a changing.’ We are nearing our time of departure from Loches to Descartes. While our move will consist of a short one (33 km) and we will not be opening a new church (but rather a second campus of the existing church here in Loches) 33 kilometers feels like a lot, especially when it involves packing boxes and not going on vacation. So we’d like to give you a short explanation of what exactly is going on here in the lovely South Touraine.
On June 1 we signed a lease for a house in Descartes (120 m2), I have no idea what this means but a lot of people ask me the size of our house so there’s that. Our house is located near the center of town and in a true neighborhood. The cost of rent in Descartes will be (with utilities, etc) around the same as our apartment here in Loches.
We will officially move from Loches to Descartes on July 11. This means that for June and a third of July we’ve had to pay rent on two locations. This is far from ideal but thanks to God we’ve been able to do this. This double rent situation has been a blessing in that we’ve been able to move little by little all of our belongings instead of one big move, which isn’t something we envy.
Our teammates the Hochets have also found a house a little further away from the center of town than us. They will move also early July. It is an amazing blessing to work side by side with friends who share our faith and push us to grow on this project. Manu and Becki are a blessing for us!
If you would like our address please send us an email or ask via Facebook! We’d love to be able to communicate with you in whichever way you’d like. As you can imagine this moving time is pretty crazy for us. Opening new electric accounts, closing others, enrolling Ophelia in school- all the while in a second language presents it’s difficulties but we’ve been blessed with amazing teachers who have truly helped us in ways we can’t express.
We’re still awaiting official news on the building for use by the church in Descartes as well. France moves on her own time schedule so while this isn’t entirely something that disturbs us, at the same time it is a prayer point that we would like to share. We are still working with a schedule that will but the opening of the building to the public in mid October! Lot's of work to do in the meantime but we have a faithful God! Summer is a time of rest and relaxation in France so we’ll begin meeting people but waiting for any official welcomes and to find out more about community organizations later in the year (beginning in August). Vacation or not, there is always time to share the good news with new neighbors and friends. Pray for us that we will be bold in sharing God’s word with our new neighbors and begin to understand their needs and desires in the community. *- Nikki is a Bob Dylan Fan. **- Greg is not.
